It's a great place

There are so few old-style gyms left in downtown Seattle that you're kind of stuck with Seattle Athletic Club if you're looking for a facility that offers cardio machines, free-weights and machines, a pool. The is EXPENSIVE for a tired and dirty place. Overall the facility is the same as it was 40 years ago. Besides needing a major cosmetic facelift they don't keep the place clean. Places such as L.A. Fitness do a much better job at keeping the places clean, and in addition housekeeping has taken a dramatic downturn -- even before covid. Carpets are filthy, the locker room (sinks, toilets area, showers) have a permanent grime, hardwood floors in areas for classes such as Zumba need to be swept every day or more often to remove dirt, hair etc., "replace filter" in water fountains are constantly red. For the premium pricing the place should sparkle. Every year they raise prices and yet small niceties such as coffee, newspapers, free parking, scales to weigh yourself, clocks around the gym, etc and etc. are constantly taken away in cost-saving measures. The good: lots of options to workout, friendly staff, plus some old equipment was recently updated.

Management does not keep the facility clean. Lockerroom is dirty, equipment is old and not cleaned, general maintenance is severely lacking. For example, mirrors are usually dirty, floors are dirty, drinking fountains have spit in them. Equipment is mostly 20, 30 or 40 years old. They continually raise rates and take away benefits, such as free and reduced parking. They have greatly reduced staff to keep the facility and equipment clean. This is an old gym in need of an overhaul (replace carpet, update equipment, paint walls, update sink area in lockerrooms, replace lockerroom floors, refurbish saunas steamrooms and jet tubs). What was once a high-end club is now tired and old. Furniture in lobby is sagging and soiled. Chairs and tables in cafe area are 40 years old. Towels are threadbare. What limited new furniture that is added is from Ikea.
