We have used Lowes for several jobs and larger purchases in the past and have been pleased... but not this time. We decided to take up the floor coverings in the full first-floor level of our home and replace them with solid wood strips. We did have 50% carpet and 50% oak flooring before, the oak being about 25 years old. There were several discussions with the flooring staff at Lowes. We loved the look of maple planks but were a little worried about whether it would stand up to wear (especially to our 80lb labrador) as well as the old oak flooring had. Lowes assured us that Maple would do that at least as well and we did note on checking what we could online that Maple is classed as a hardwood. Firstly, it took months and months to arrive, but we were persuaded to wait with a little bit of a discount on the price. It was eventually installed after appx 8 months and the installation was generally well done with the exception that they rolled our refrigerator across the floor after installation in the kitchen without putting down any floor covering and dented the wood. The real problem came right afterward, however. Within days, we started to see numerous scratch marks from the dog walking on it. Given that we feel we paid Lowes not only for the materials and the installation but very much for their advice on the wood's ability to stand up to what the oak had stood up to (without a scratch) for the 10 years we have had the dog, we were extremely disappointed. The scratches, of course, continue to get worse as time goes by. Given that this was an expensive (appx $12,000) project we expected that the company would work with us to find some kind of solution but, on the contrary, they continuously tried to dodge meeting with us on the issue and gave us the excuse that they were merely the "middle man" between the manufacturer and the homeowner. Not so: we were their client and went with the product on their advice. So very disappointed and, of course, would never do business with them again.
