In my experience, and the experiences reported by other long-term customers, Davis and Davis (D&D) is no longer the trustworthy company that it used to be. When I tried to change the program of a new thermostat that D&D installed without leaving me the manual, it locked up. I called D&D and they sent a tech to reboot it. Their tech had it functioning normally within 10 minutes of his arrival. Then the tech went to his truck to get something and went to the basement. Twenty minutes later he came up and presented me a bill for $999. The bill showed a labor charge plus charges for two parts. He had replaced two small parts in the furnace. When I asked why he replaced them he was very evasive. I paid the bill, and the tech left. I was a project engineer for an engineering firm. I took the parts out of the trash can where the tech left them and I tested them. They tested as good. The bill showed that the reason the bill was for essentially $1,000 was because the tech billed me approximately 5 times the retail store price for one part and 3 times the retail price for the other part, as well as for a labor charge to get a nice neat $999. I called the D&D general manager and left a message for him to call me. He did not call. For three months, I left repeated messages for the general manager to call me. He never did so. I waited a month after that and then I called again. This time I left a message for the general manager saying that I wanted to discuss with him a review I did of D&D, for publication. The general manager of D&D called me back. He was very, very evasive. It was a waste of time talking with him.
