I've been an active reviewer on Yelp since 2010, and up until now, I've refrained from writing negative reviews out of respect for individuals' reputations, believing that karma would ultimately balance things out. However, the behavior exhibited by this dentist's office was so egregious and unprofessional that I felt compelled to share my experience. I was a patient of Dr. Singer for several years starting around 2010, during which he performed various procedures including fillings, crowns, and a bridge, all of which were satisfactory. Upon relocating to Virginia, I stopped seeing him. The bridge he put in remained in fine condition all these years. Recently, a minor issue arose with the bridge which was a small chip, prompting me to contact the office for a simple fix which would have been to smooth the chip over. Dr. Singer's wife, who also serves as the office secretary, said that due to my prolonged absence, Dr. Singer would need to conduct a comprehensive evaluation, including x-rays, before addressing the bridge issue. Furthermore, she indicated that there would be an additional charge for any work done on the bridge. Despite Dr. Singer's lifetime guarantee on the bridge, which implied there should be no charge for simply smoothing out the chip, I expressed my willingness to pay for that specific procedure. However, I firmly declined the request for a complete evaluation and x-rays, as they were unnecessary in this particular situation. At this juncture, her demeanor turned hostile, and she began throwing out objections as to why Dr. Singer couldn't see me. Initially, she suggested that I might have seen a different Dr. Singer, to which I responded by mentioning his age during my visits--I distinctly recall him being in his 60s at the time, indicating that he must be older now. She then confirmed that he is indeed 83 years old, a fact I corroborated by researching him online, solidifying my certainty that he was the correct dentist. Subsequently, she claimed to have "found" my records but stated there was no mention of a bridge procedure. I insisted that I distinctly recalled Dr. Singer performing the bridge work along my other visits for cleanings and other dental procedures. At the time, he was listed as one of the dentists covered by my dental insurance plan (Care First). However, she countered by asserting that their office had never accepted or participated in Care First Dental. I am meticulous about keeping records, including receipts and medical documents, indefinitely. I offered to fax her copies of my Care First statements, which clearly showed payments made to their office. However, at that juncture, she abruptly stated they were not accepting new patients and hung up on me. I couldn't help but find it ironic, considering just moments prior, they were willing to accept me as a new patient under the condition that I pay for a complete evaluation, including x-rays, etc. It's truly disheartening that they chose to create unnecessary drama and consumed valuable time by raising numerous objections, some of which were unfounded, when I expressed my hesitation to pay for a complete evaluation, including x-rays, etc. The issue at hand merely required a simple and direct procedure to smooth out the small chip on the bridge--a procedure I was prepared to pay for. This review does not reflect negatively on Dr. Singer's professional abilities, as he performed commendably during my treatments, and I sincerely hope that at 83 years old, he continues to provide quality care. However, I find it puzzling and disappointing that his back office, which is managed by his wife, is exhibiting such behavior. Whether this approach has been authorized by Dr. Singer or is solely her decision to maximize their office's income is unclear. Regardless of the reasons behind it, this conduct is regrettable, as I believe their practice would benefit greatly from maintaining a higher level of professionalism.
