I contacted Costco first. But I hadn't bought their extended warranty (just $100 to include any and all accidents) so I was referred to DELL.
DELL processed the laptop fix effectively: my laptop was returned to me fully functioning. It cost me quite a bit however. And the process of dealing with DELL wasn't simple. A number of painfully long conversations over phone where communication was confused though very professional and polite (language barrier? poor sound quality from US to India?)
Bottom line, I'm very happy DELL restored my laptop fully functioning. But would purchase the all-inclusive insurance from Costco next time to avoid the DELL cost. And hopefully avoid the confusing DELL helpdesk.
