We have experienced extraordinary service from Continental Garage for over a half dozen years now. Owner Thanh Lieu is an extraordinary mechanic and handles everything in the shop himself. He and Maria Lieu, who manages the office and recordkeeping, have operated Continental Garage for several decades. Our cars outlived their warranties quite a few years ago; we have driven both of them (a Toyota Highlander and Honda CRV) for over 20 years and, as they have aged, more maintenance and repairs have naturally been needed. Continental Garage has been wonderfully responsive and efficient in their work – even on the same day, when needed (and even when they had plenty of other work already scheduled to do.) We have been able to rely on Thanh’s diagnoses and advice about our cars’ problems, alternative solutions, costs, etc. That has included his recommending against work that would have earned him more income. The Highlander finally reached a point this year that Thanh recommended not repairing its most recent problem because the cost would outweigh the benefit (given the age, mileage, and condition of the car’s other systems). That was his recommendation even though it ended Continental’s income stream from that car, which would have continued as long as we owned it. In that, their billing practices, and other ways, they have repeatedly shown dependable integrity along with high quality work. And besides all that, they are very nice people! Over the years, we have worked with other excellent auto repair shops, but Continental is the best.

Brought my car in for regular maintenance based on mileage. I asked how much it would cost, and was told it wouldn't cost anything to look at it, he would then tell me the cost for the items needing replacemen. I didn't receive any upfront quote for the regular maintenance service. It wasn't until after I came back to pick up the car and got the invoice that I realized I had been hit with a $200 charge for the inspection (in addition to the cost for labor and material for the replaced items). Another reputable place only charges $65 for the inspection (I found out later). In addition, my car was leaking oil which I knew from an earlier trip to the dealership. I asked for a quote to repair. I was told he couldn't email me a formal quote. He offered to text me the price, I agreed. The price was twice as high ($1000 higher) than that of a different reputable place nearby and it would have taken two days instead of one. I don't know why Continental Garage is rated so much cheaper than the average. That was definitely not my experience. The take away for me is to always ask for a formal quote in writing even for simple things as inspection to avoid any surprises. Also, make sure to shop around even if a place looks great based on the Consumer's Checkbook reviews.

I've used this shop twice now, once for a 60,00 - mile servicing and the other to replace a side mirror. The owner does top notch work and is a super nice person, as well as easy to communicate with.
