I like easy. Our experience with this unaccountable CLOWN CAR of a company was NOT. It was overly frustrating – and costly. We ended up paying MUCH MORE than the “total” $9,818 in the signed Contract – to fix a continuing series of technical blunders we didn’t cause – first, due to BDry’s problem-plagued February, 2019 basement waterproofing installation, then with the same apathetic, unreliable, technically inept bunglers in the Washington, DC office after rebranding as ’58 Foundations. Mistakes happen, sure. Customer-focused firms quickly make things right. ’58 Foundations is NOT that kind of company, not even close, despite their advertising. The DC office failed to respond for service throughout, even after: • The water discharge pipe was installed so water flowed down or sloping lawn and flooded our 65’ shady Magnolia – despite the Contract specifically requiring that system installation NOT damage the tree. • The crew wrongly left the discharge pipe 5” ABOVE GROUND. The pop-up valve on top then blew away a few weeks later, leaving an opening full of filthy algae water in the middle of the front lawn. • They also managed to somehow SMASH A BASEMENT WINDOW on the cold February day. When my wife asked the crew chief to just get it fixed before we freeze, he said, “That’s your job, not ours”. With the arborist we retained clear that the flooded Magnolia was about to drown – it remains severely impacted – a ’58 rep finally came out (August, 2020). • He knew we had to act ASAP to stop the flooding we didn’t cause to save the tree. The estimate he provided to move the water line 75’ to the street was clearly inflated, before he halved the cost when we threatened litigation. • They then ROYALLY screwed that up, too, causing flooding and a large area of marshland to form near the street, complete with standing pool we called “Lake ’58” – with water from the house actually shooting up from the middle of Lake ’58. The flood quickly spread to our neighbor’s property. They weren’t happy. Neither were we. People walking along our property weren’t happy, either, after stepping into the unexpected marsh (no sidewalks where we are). The DC tech who came out this time after we had to reach out to ‘58’s Knoxville HQs, walked around the disaster zone for over an hour. His conclusion? The flooding happened because their crew bungled moving the water line (NO KIDDING??), for too many reasons to list here. • Our favorite: They BURIED the water release pipe. “No need for above-ground release”, that crew chief said, “Every drop of water will absorb right into the ground” – shortly before the whole area turned into Marsh ’58. The tech then said he’ll do a PROPOSAL to again move the water line. Huh?? We didn’t cause the latest problem we paid to correct, either – and what about ‘58’s ironclad WARRANTY or separate NO-RISK MONEY BACK GUARANTEE? • Warranty? Guarantee? Yeah, right, said the tech. Did you hear the one about . . . You live in a nice house, so what’s ANOTHER couple thousand, or do you just want to keep the mosquito breeding ground we gave you? The tech did promise to share his findings with managers back at the office, that’s true, along with our demanding ’58 remedy the latest blunder at THEIR COST this time, also true. He then swore several times that someone would respond “very shortly” . . . When Pigs Fly Out Of My (Tush). He didn’t mention pigs. It didn’t matter. We never heard anything back. EVER. At least they’re consistent. ’58 FOUNDATIONS CAN GO TO HELL Several months and no response later, we reached out to a competent water management contractor; the whole area was dry again a few weeks after they came out. We’ll go to Court to recover what we paid for window repair, etc., etc. above the $9,818 Contract. Cases here in Fairfax County, VA are held in the same courthouse which hosted the recent Johnny Depp / Amber Heard trial. ‘58 Foundations is reminiscent of what Amber left in Johnny’s bed, a miserable, rotten place to do business with.
