Too expensive. Over $500 for 20 minutes work on leaking pipe. Requested an itemtemized bill (labor cost, parts cost) which wasn’t sent. Supplied just cost. When queried about lo or cost per hour said charge by job and not cost per hour! Skilled people but overcharge.

I used to think very highly of this company, but not any more. They now aggressively "up sell", which is a red flag in itself. Their prices have also increased at a pace that cannot be explained by inflation or post-pandemic supply chain issues. Nonetheless, because of my good history with them, I decided to hire them earlier this year to replace my sump pump system, which they had installed about twelve years ago. After changing out the pump and battery backup, the installer showed me where the interior discharge piping was leaking. He said fixing the leak would cost me another $1200! First of all, replacement of the discharge piping was to have been part of the overall system replacement job, just like it had been twelve years before. And second, the piping had not been leaking before the installer started working; the leak was new, something he had caused. In other words, they wanted me to pay again for that part of the job, because of a problem they had caused. But at that point, with a leaking pipe, I had no better choice than to pay the additional $1200. Later, I made a written complaint (via email) to the managers of the company. At first, they wouldn't budge, but I persisted. Eventually, after much back and forth on the issue, they finally refunded the $1200 additional charge. Eventually, they did the right thing, but they should have done the right thing from the start.

I've used Appleton Cambell for a few plumbing projects. These include excavation and identifying an underground leak which they resolved effectively and for a reasonable cost. I've also had the company replace a toilet and hot water heater. All work was performed expertly with great communication. They work on your schedule not theirs which is almost unheard of these days. All personnel are knowledgeable and polite. I highly recommend Appleton Cambell.
