Custom Drainage Systems (Matt Miller) performed approximately $12000 of exterior regrading and drainage work around this Falls Church residence in Feb 2022. He provided useful suggestions for controlling water infiltration around the below grade part of the house foundation including: amending, tamping, and regrading the soil around foundation, patio, and under deck; burying down spout pipes for proper flow; and reconstructing a brick walkout basement stairwell drain for improved flow. These suggestions were all documented in a simple but comprehensive contract proposal; nothing hidden. Matt was friendly, informative, and true to his plan. Work was performed cleanly and as scheduled, weather permitting. After excellent work at my own home, I recommended his services for this location.

Matt and Custom Drainage Water Systems designed and built a water drainage system for my backyard; they also build retaining walls to prevent further loss of my backyard into the ravine behind my house. The problem was that lots of water was draining from the front of my house and my neighbor's yard into my backyard. In major storms, the water ran pretty heavy, and when it reached the back of my yard, it carried some of the yard into the ravine. So I was losing about a foot per year. I had two contractors make proposals and give estimates. The first contractor proposed to build a dry well and set drains and pipes in the back yard to direct the water into the well. But Matt pointed out that the capacity of the well wouldn't be nearly adequate for the amount of water, and that dry wells work better in areas with lighter soil (not the clay we have around here), because then the water can disperse into the yard from the well. Anyhow, Matt designed a solution with drains and pipes that moved the water from where it tended to travel through pipes and into the ravine--without taking my yard with it. I was super impressed with the work, including the thought that went into it, the smart ways in which they handled unexpected challenges, and the care and neatness of the work. I highly recommend them to people who have similar issues in their yard, and I plan to use them for other services that they offer.
