I bought blackout shades. The product samples and displays are on the second floor, but the department and staff who handle this are located on the first floor. This created inconvenience and confusion. When the staffer in this department takes a lunch break, no one is available to customers. The process entails five steps and two subcontractors in addition to Home Depot. The customer--not the store--does all of the work in terms of communication and coordination of the three different service providers. Step 1: Customer pays deposit for home visit to measure for shades. Step 2: Customer must call the measuring subcontractor to arrange visit. Step 3: After measurements are made, customer must return to the store--no one ever answers the phone at this store until after you've been on hold forever--to select product and pay. Step 4. The product is delivered to the customer's residence, where it remains on the floor until Step 5: Once the product has been delivered, the customer contacts the installing subcontractor for an appointment. Start to finish the process took 26 days. The price was reasonable, the selection was excellent, and all of the people I dealt with were competent, especially the two sub-contractors. But the system within which they must work is the Rube Goldberg creation of incompetent managers who really don't care at all about the customer. There are local companies that do only blinds and shades. I should have dealt with one of them. Cost could have been higher, but it would surely have been more convenient and less frustrating to deal with any of them. At very least, they would surely have done their fair share of the coordination, communication, and scheduling.
