We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with a party for 38 people at our home in Fairfax, VA in June 2014. LaPrima Catering did a wonderful job and helped to make this event very, very special. LaPrima is one of very few caterers with a menu so huge that they can accommodate all kinds of special dietary preferences and needs. For our menu, we selected a few non-vegan items (one of the two passed appetizers was miniature crab cakes, and we also had separate buffet displays of shrimp and artisan cheese). The rest of the food was vegan: hummus with pita triangles, Portobello mushroom sliders, red curry tofu skewers, their award-winning avocado corn salad with red, white and blue corn chips, hearty vegetarian chili, roasted vegetables, salad with dressing on the side, a fresh fruit salad display, and the other passed appetizer was vegetarian Asian dumplings. Everything was presented beautifully, and the food was wonderful. The buffet displays included tiered holders and beautiful serving platters. Our guests, almost all of who are non-vegetarians, raved about the food and the service. Numerous guests who live locally asked us who our caterer was. One of our out-of-town guests said, “This is wonderful. Whatever you’re paying for this, it’s totally worth it.” We agree. LaPrima provided all of the food (except for some vegan cupcakes provided by one of our friends), several tables (two 6-foot tables, and one 4-foot table for the bartender) and beautiful table linens for a total of 6 tables (their 3 tables, plus 3 tables of ours). LaPrima also provided 5 flower arrangements for the tables. We provided the liquor, soft drinks, and our own glasses, plates, and eating utensils. LaPrima provided four staff members for the 3-hour event, plus setup and cleanup: a kitchen manager (who set up and worked out of our garage, which was great), two servers, and bartender. The event manager, Misty Zani, also came to supervise setup. LaPrima staff are great professionals. One thing I loved is the way the waiters served the passed appetizers. They never interrupted a conversation; they somehow found the perfect moment – very gracious service. Also, at the end of the official party time (2 to 5 PM), when many of our out-of-town family members were still around and having a great time, the staff waited for my OK before starting to wrap up. (The great part about having an event in your home is that you can extend the time.) When I gave them the OK to start putting away, they found a way to smoothly and quietly consolidate food on my kitchen table (which they transferred to my own platters, presented beautifully) and they were just so very quiet and smooth that it did not interrupt the family after-party at all. Somehow they managed to wash all 38 of my plates without making a sound. I have no idea how they did this. They were amazing. One more special thing worth mentioning is that we had an emergency shortly before LaPrima arrived to set up: when we were getting ready to take our three dogs to doggie day care, one of our little dogs ran away and disappeared into a wooded area that is overgrown with brambles and poison ivy. So, instead of focusing on party set-up, my husband and I were searching for our dog, putting up lost dog posters, etc. Thankfully, my husband and one of our dear friends found and rescued our dog just 30 minutes before the first guests arrived. I barely had time to clean up our dog and myself, and change into my party clothes. I lost so much time that I had to ask Misty to do the last-minute things that I’d planned to do: arrange the chairs around the rented tables, arrange the flowers and other table decorations, etc., because I totally ran out of time. Misty was wonderful and she really went above and beyond. (And all the LaPrima staff were so happy for us when we came back from our search with our little dog safe and sound!) Our party was a wonderful celebration of our milestone 25th anniversary. All of our guests had a great time. We received lots of phone calls and thank-you notes in days following from guests telling us how much they enjoyed it. It’s fun for us just thinking about that special day. My husband said that it was “several hours of pure magic.” LaPrima’s outstanding food and service played a major role in making this celebration the very wonderful occasion that it was. I recommend them most highly.
