I have often brought my car in for something simple, like an oil change and they always come out and tell me many other things it needs. These "other" things are always very expensive. Sometimes, I have already had these services completed by a mechanic I trust. They are very friendly but I don't really trust them for more than very simple services.

2003 Ford Focus SE was having engine performance issues. Shop recommended "induction service", which still didn't address issue. A few months later the proper diagnosis was determined - ignition coil, along with a $1400 repair estimate, which stated the ignition coil needed to be purchased in a 4-pack. For a 10+ old car this repair estimate was excessive and incorrect. Ignition coils for this Ford Focus are individual not a universal coil pack. I took my car back and was able to repair it for under $200.
