Bill Summers helped us to replace our furnace in an emergency situation in December after a carbon monoxide alarm alerted us to a leak. We received three estimates; two of them were exactly the same and almost double the cost of Mr. Summers’s quote. He received good reviews on Checkbook, was very responsive, and seemed eager to help, so we felt good about selecting him. I wish we could give him straight A’s across the board, but working with him proved to be a rather frustrating experience. We were under pressure to complete the job; not only was it the coldest week in December, but we had already been without heat for several days and were scheduled to host an appreciation event for the county’s teachers in eight days. At first he declined the job, saying he didn’t have the bandwidth to complete the job in time. But he called back to say he would be able to do it after all. I reiterated the urgency of our deadline; he said he was committed to meeting it. Each day on the job, Bill was excellent at communicating next steps and trying to manage expectations. But consistently, he texted to let us know he would be 30-90 minutes later than originally expected, and more and more obstacles arose, significantly delaying the job. We hosted the event with space heaters. Two days later, he said he’d be done by 2 p.m….then 4 p.m….and at 6 p.m. he said there were another 1.5 hours of work to complete, and he’d be back the following morning. The next morning, he called to tell us he needed to deal with another client who had been without heat (???) and couldn’t finish our job that day after all—did we want him to return on Sunday or Monday? He finally finished the job 11 days after we first contacted him. Furthermore, our house was left in disarray. While he took precautions to lay down ground cloth, he did nothing to sweep up the dirt caused by the repair or leaves blown in the open door, to replace items and furniture moved around to access the equipment, or even point out the damaged doorway threshold accidentally ripped out that we’ll have to have repaired. We appreciated Mr. Summers’s excellent pricing, industry knowledge, and years of experience, but his poor time management and careless treatment of our home make him difficult to recommend.

Tried using Summers based on ratings on Checkbook, unfortunately had a bad experience and cannot recommend. Mr. Summers rescheduled our appointment twice, and finally canceled on us on the day of the appointment, telling us to just call someone else.
