A good gym, but parking is tough, have to use a garage, park on an upper level, and validation still results in a $5 charge. Other than the parking, generally satisfied.

Gym referral leads to unauthorized charges lasting over one year. "F" is the Better Business Bureau's (BBB's) rating for Gold's Gym. BBB's website includes a series of allegations of financial and marketing improprieties by the gym. In early 2018 I referred someone to Gold’s Gym. He went to Gold’s Gym by himself and told the staff there that I had referred him to Gold’s Gym. I was not present, and I did not sign any paperwork related to his membership. Gold’s Gym started to bill me for his membership, and I told staff at Gold’s Gym to stop doing that and to reimburse my credit card. Gold’s Gym staff told me that I should get my reimbursement from the person I referred myself since we knew one another. I told the staff that no, I would not do that, and that I wanted Gold’s Gym to fix its own mistakes. That billing error by Gold’s Gym was resolved in 2018. At the beginning of 2019 the person I referred signed up for personal training, and Gold’s Gym started to bill me for his personal training. Gold’s Gym billed me even though the person I referred indicates that he explicitly asked staff to be sure that I was not billed for the physical training. I physically went to Gold’s Gym three times and finally was able to talk to the staff person the third time about the unauthorized bill. He told me that he would fix the mistake and call me the next day. He never did call me, so I contacted my credit card company to dispute the unauthorized charge. Next I was dealing with corporate Gold’s Gym. They repeatedly e-mailed and called me and asked me to contact them about the billing dispute. I did that multiple times only to be told that my situation was complex and they were not prepared to talk to me. I asked them to stop e-mailing me if they were not prepared to talk about it, but I was told that they would call me if they didn’t e-mail me. They later tried to add $20 onto my regular membership fee since I had refused to pay the unauthorized charge, which I refused to pay. I thought the billing dispute was resolved after I paid my membership fee (which Gold’s had comingled with the large unauthorized charge), but then I received a letter informing me that I was a guarantor for the person I had referred and that I had to pay his physical training bill. There was a signature next to my typed name on the form that purported to make me a guarantor, but it was not my signature or my name that was signed. I have spent over 40 hours trying to get Gold’s Gym to stop sending me these unauthorized bills. Now corporate Gold’s Gym tells me that I have to come in and sign paperwork to quit being the guarantor, even though I never signed any paperwork to be the guarantor. The mistake I made was to refer someone to join Gold’s Gym, a gym I have belonged to for 23 years. I will not make that mistake again.
