My regular dentist referred me to Dr. Stich for some minor oral surgery. He is highly rated, so I made an appointment to see him. I was not expecting Dr. Stich to open up a large area in my mouth and remove a number of tissue samples for biopsy. Perhaps this was necessary, based on his expertise, but it seemed pretty far-fetched to me; I came in due to a fairly recent injury caused by accidentally biting part of my lip. The biopsies all came back benign. When I came back for the follow-up visit two weeks later, Dr. Stich did not remember that he had done my surgery; he had to ask his assistant who did it, she replied, "you." The incision healed poorly; 15 months later I still have loose tissue that snags easily, and a large area is partly numb and partly hyper-sensitive. I do not know if this is Dr. Stich's fault, or if it would have happened no matter who did the surgery, but it is very unpleasant, on a daily basis. Please note that I am not confident that I can rate Dr. Stich's competence; he may be just fine, and I may just have been unlucky. Also, I was unable to go back for a timely follow up, because by the time I realized that my mouth was not healing properly, the pandemic had shut everything down. I want to be fair to him, but I'm also pretty unhappy about what's happened to my mouth.
