We hired Debbie to help us select paints and rugs for the entire house after a fire. We really liked her initial enthusiasm, but in the end it didn’t feel like she was working for or with us – rather, she wanted to lead us in a direction we didn’t really want to go. We paid $1000 for 3 hours in which she provided recommendations for paint and furniture, often built around her recommendations for carpet/rugs. There seemed to be an assumption that we would follow her recommendations even though we didn’t have sufficient information (e.g., actually seeing paint samples on the wall, testing furniture in person, assessing rug availability/quality, and getting cost information for furniture). Her 3-hour consultation was essentially a presentation of series of ideas that we either didn’t particularly like in the end (e.g., once we saw the paint on the walls) or turned out to be impractical (e.g., one carpet sample that she built her recommendations around turned out to be discontinued). She did provide us with some helpful ideas for a major living area, which we appreciate, but ultimately we didn’t feel that we got our money’s worth.
