We found Julia Caswell Daitch (she works alone) excellent for enclosing our back porch as a sunroom. She did the architectural design, which involved opening a wide passage through the exterior (and load-bearing) brick-and-block outside wall of the house. She also managed the contractor solicitation and selection process, and she reviewed the work as it was done by the selected contractor. When we remodeled our kitchen a year later, her contribution was merely adequate. She made the excellent suggestion of moving the doorway between the kitchen and dining room by about 18 inches (it made a big difference), but otherwise offered little help besides recommending the cabinet supplier and the contractor. The former did the design for the new kitchen, and I ended up supervising the contractor's work myself, with little help from the architect.
