Recently called the Silver Spring, MD franchise in a jam because the AC stopped working. They sent a service tech same day, who found the coils frozen and some water in the system. He was sure there was a leak. Said it was one part or another leaking, but he could only check when it thawed. Said both parts are about $4000 to replace and we could replace one and find out it was actually the other and end up replacing both for $8000. Said we should consider a new system for about $10k instead since ours was over 10 years old, and that’s when they start to die. System was shut down, we didn’t schedule him to come back when it thawed, he sent a salesman a couple days later instead. Salesman was pleasant enough but had to run his whole spiel and would never give us any price info when we asked, repeatedly. Not until he finished with his own questions, measurements, explanations, etc almost 3 hours later when we were tired and hungry for lunch. We expected less than a hour for this sales visit. New systems were quoted as waaaay more than we were told by the tech, more than double for what he was trying to sell us (over $20k). We decided we wanted to try to repair it, but wanted a second opinion from a different company. This second company got it running same day. Thinks it froze because of a cold night. Explained how to maintain the system. Thinks we may need to change a much cheaper part (< $1000) before winter, but that in general our system is in good shape. Night and day with these 2 companies! The second company also referred me to this site for our home repair needs as new homeowners, and they are very well reviewed on here! So glad we got a second opinion. Will not use One Hour Heating and AC, ever.

I had a system put in 3 years ago by a different franchise but was transferred to this franchise in 2021. I had an issue with the unit this month. The tech said the "refrigerant evaporated" so he added more. I was charged for the refrigerant and when I tried to get someone on the phone to explain why this was not covered under warranty (5 year labor and 10 years parts) it took an email, 3 phone calls with messages and a facebook message to One Hour's corporate office over the course of 2 weeks to get the manager to call me. It was obvious that he could care less whether I was happy or not. And while the "evaporated refrigerant" was likely due to a repair made in January, there was nothing they could do. Ok, I might be able to see that but the lack of responsiveness or concern is a deal breaker. It's sad because the previous company was so great. I definitely won't be calling them when my other 20 year old unit dies and I would recommend you avoid them as well.

Great company - actually, they bought up Chilltrol which was a locally owned company, but the national status of One Hour hasn't hurt them one bit. They call when they are on the way and are extremely informative and courteous when on site.
