My father was in assisted living facility when he was hospitalized for several days. The rule was he had to go to a rehab center before the assisted living facility would allow him to return. I chose Kensington Nursing after speaking with the administrator on the phone and getting excellent answers to my questions. I was told my dad would get a minimum of 1 hour of physical therapy per day. I also chose it because I live in Kensington and it would be easy for me to visit him. When he got there, he was feeling well and ready to return home except for some weakness. Within 5 days, he was very weak and feeling sick. They fed him the completely wrong diet and refused to change it. They did not give him physical therapy an hour every day. It was more like 15 minutes every other day. When I was there, a nurse refused to help him get from the chair to the bed, saying he could walk himself. He hadn't been able to walk himself for over a year before he was hospitalized. Another time I was there, 2 nurses were fighting over the bed where he was lying. I wrote a 12-page complaint to the State of Maryland. The upshot was that although the nurses interviewed by the State agreed with all of my assessments, the doctors did not write any of these things down, so according to the State of Maryland there was no "proof" that any of these things occurred. Everyone I have spoken to, including a neighbor who works there, says it is the worst place they have ever seen. Whatever is broken (like the front door) stays broken and just gets worse. Stay away from this place at all costs. By the time I was able to get my father out, he was literally dying.
