As H&R Block tries more to emulate the online only tax service competition, it is failing at what was its bread-and-butter: highly competent, well-trained tax preparers. Working with them online is almost impossibly confusing. Going in person to Bowie---as we were forced to do after the online service botched our forms---was on slightly better. The preparer seemed nice and competent. We trusted, but when we submitted our tax return the IRS contacted us later to tell us our taxes had been underestimated and we ended up owing them thousands of dollars. When we called H&R block at Bowie to get the promised guarantee of help if the IRS rejects the return, no help was provided. Never called us back. We did redo them to the IRS's satisfaction on our own and paid. This was a terrible experience.
