When one spends upwards of $20K on a system, one expects a company to be able to help troubleshoot on the phone without charging a fee. After the first 90 days, Bethesda Systems does not do that... unless you purchase a service contract, which starts at $49 per month; without the contract, they'll make you get a service call. Service calls start at $175 per hour. If you want them to come in fewer than five days, you need to pay $149 per month, and that gets you a slightly discounted hourly rate. In case you haven't figured it out, it's all about the money, which leaves a very bad taste in one's mouth after spending $20K. To a certain degree, I understand where they're coming from. They're often dealing with 5 or 6 different manufacturers, and any of them can update their software at any time, and when they do, it can impact everything else in your system. And Bethesda Systems should not have to pay for that. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, they should be willing to help a customer on the phone for free when the customer pays that kind of money up front; the rate of $175/hour (one-hour minimum) is way over the top; and making someone wait 5 days unless they pay $149/month for service. And almost as bad as all the above, they don't mention before you buy that one will likely need service a few times a year, because of all the updates that companies make to their software. BTW, here are the types of companies you may have that will often make updates: for starters, Apple, Sonos, Control4, your Internet Provider (e.g., AT&T, Verizon,...), and your TV manufacturer. Now every Home Theatre company faces these same issues, but some will alert you before you buy that these things will happen, and many will have more reasonable pricing plans.
