Springhouse is wonderful. My dad was here from age 95 (after my mother's death) until his death at 97, and had the best life he possibly could have had while there. The facilities are bright, cheerful, and spotless, with many small touches that personalize them. The dining room is bright and open, with lots of light. The staff is extraordinary. Every person who works there, whether they are building maintenance people, dining room servers, personal care staff, or management, knows and genuinely cares for each of the residents. Even the part-time dining room servers knew my father, chatted with him, and remembered his various food preferences and dislikes. When Dad first moved in he was in assisted living; in his final months he was in the memory unit, where the individual attention and care continued. Everyone continued to see and relate to my dad as an individual, even as his limitations, intellectual and physical, increased. The grounds are beautiful, and my dad loved to take walks and enjoy the trees, flowers, and other greenery. In his last months, when walking was not an option, he would look out the windows and enjoy views of the trees. They do not have 24 hour med staff, but Faulkner Hospital is directly across the street in case of emergency. Is Springhouse perfect? Of course not; nowhere is. But I learned through 2 experiences with assisted living facilities (my parents were in one in CT before my mother died, which had lovely facilities but less than wonderful management and staff in terms of caring about the residents), that what matters most is that the staff truly care about the residents; see and appreciate them as individuals; are responsive to the residents' and families' concerns; and that the facilities are clean and well-kept. If the staff doesn't care about your loved one, nothing else really matters. FYI - This is written in May 2019; my dad was at Springhouse from 2013 until he died in 2015.
