Got 2 techs for a job that was a furnace tune up and to fix a broken damper handle in a very accessible location. I was surprised that they worked at it for two hours. A furnace check is usually about 30-45 min, and the damper should not have taken more than 30 minutes (the handle that sticks out of the duct had broken off). The work was fine, price and time were more than would have expected. Also, they install Carrier gear, and had a very outdated understanding of what the newest heat pump capabilities are. Carrier uses a cheap Chinese unit that I would never put in, and the tech trash talked competitors like Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, and Daikin; whose products are fully capable of handling a Chicago winter (and in fact Minnesota and Norway). I would not hire them to install a heat pump, which I plan to do soon, as I do not think they have any real experience with them.
