I took my car in for an oil change, and when I picked it up, the interior of the car had a very strong smell of an organic solvent. I’ve never experienced this before with an oil change, or any other work on my car. Breathing organic solvents is not good for anyone, and unfortunately I am sensitive to organic solvents. I was told that they routinely use a brake cleaner when doing oil changes to clean up any oil they have spilled. I asked to see the brake cleaner. There were many warnings about its use and the primary ingredient was toluene, a very potent organic solvent. This was clearly an off label use. I’ve never seen anyone do this before. I was due to leave on a cross country trip the next morning. I thought if I let the car air out it would be all right. After some hours it had not aired out, so I took it to a car wash and attempted to clean the engine compartment. When I hit the undercarriage cover, a very strong smell of the solvent came up. The next day I took it my car back to Elite Tire and asked that the undercarriage cover be removed and cleaned. I was shown it would be cleaned with dish detergent, but was treated in a very dismissive manner. I did not know at the time, nor evidently did management that toluene is not water soluble. I went to pick the car up and it had been parked on a very hot day in direct sunlight, with all the windows rolled up and the fan running. It is not possible to run the fan on recirculation, as they knew. I was told that I shouldn’t ever get service at their store again. Obviously, no problem. I attempted on and off to drive the car for several days. I lost half of my vacation over this, and eventually had to borrow a friends car. I thought when I returned, the car would be all right, but it was not, and I have not been able to solve the problem. This is a Volvo that I intended to keep for another 70,000-100,000 miles. Due to work related chemical exposure years ago, I will admit to being more sensitive. Probably trace amounts now and maybe imbedded in the interior, but I have been resensitized. If you don’t want to be unnecessarily exposed to organic solvents or have chemical sensitivities, you may want to consider taking your car elsewhere.

Brought my car into Elite Tire and Auto for new starter. All windows were rolled up and functioning when car was brought in. After starter was replaced i came to pick up car to find driver side window was broken (window down, unable to go up, window crank broken). Owner tells me “not my problem” and quotes me $288 for window repair that was not broken when car was brought in a few hours earlier.

Had my car towed to their shop and they completed repairs same day - very pleasant and up front about pricing.
