This therapy is not for rehab, or injury, but focused on chronic pain management. As such it is very unique. It is only available for patients in chronic pain (constant pain over 3 months) who are patients of Stanford Pain Management Clinic. It purpose is to provide strategic exercises and techniques for controlling chronic pain. This makes this clinic very unique given the focus. What they do, they do exceptionally well as what they teach are tools for life. Patient involvement is a must and the patient needs be in a frame of mind to do the homework on a consistent, regular basis. However it works, even when other therapy has failed because the staff are experts in what they do. One caution. If you take opioids for chronic pain, be prepared to give them up if you became a patient. They teach you techniques, exercises, and methodology so that you can. They are also very reluctant to prescribe them, and for good reason. Recent studies indicate opioids ultimately increase chronic pain over the long term. Instead their programs and physical therapies promote treatments that help pain management for life without a lot of drugs.
