My son has flourished under John's instruction. John's overall approach is to provide tools and assistance for the student to self-monitor and auto-correct between lessons, and I can hear my son implementing this during his daily practice sessions. During lessons, John uses a variety of communication approaches (physical aids, different metaphors, examples) with strong diagnostic capability to improve all manner of technical capabilities (e.g. tone, attack, range, evenness) while also addressing musical aspects (phrasing, dynamics, expression & lyricism, period-appropriate ornamentation, etc), as well as practical, real-world advice for the "business" of music (e.g. auditioning). Great teacher.
