Actual installation was contracted out to Mancuso Construction. I was not told that that would happen.
Installer wanted decisions made about details without providing any explanation as to what the ramifications of the choices would be (e.g., materials). Decided to use composite material for jambs; upon installation we learned that they will not cut composite material, so the jambs are not flush with the walls and protrude into the house about 1/4 inch leaving a gap between the trim and the drywall which they seemed to think was perfectly normal until I insisted they do something about it.
2 of 3 doors were installed mostly fine (except trim, which was done poorly and required repeated visits to correct). The third door was incorrectly manufactured (not installer's fault, but I do expect them to inspect the product before installing). A replacement was ordered and installed. The door hits the frame and the deadbolt isn't aligned properly. We are now on the 3rd attempt to get it fixed correctly.
This third door is a garage exterior-entry door. We chose not to have a threshold installed as the door is flush with the concrete floor. When installed, instead, there was a 1.25 inch gap between the bottom of the door and the floor. About which I was told, "that's how they come because it's a fiberglass door" and, "some people want it like that." Upon insisting that such a gap was unacceptable they installed a cheap, straight-mount sweep (so the gap was still visible from the inside). I bought a decent U-mount sweep and installed it myself.
They seem to be capable of doing decent work, but not of their own accord. The "solution" to most of the issues has been "add more nails.". The installer always seemed to be doing the minimum effort so they could leave rather than spending the time to do it right.
