I used their location in San Ramon for around twenty years until they closed that location. I've gone to the Lafayette location since. They never tried to sell me services I didn't need. They did let me know if there was a service I'd need later such as brake pads a certain percentage used but not needing replacement yet. They always called me and described what they did or asked if they found something needing attention. They have Customer transportation home and back. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable .

Been going to The Service Outlet for at least 30 years (since the opened in 1987 in San Ramon). But now after different service reception personnel and mechanic changes, but same owner, I need to find another place. In 2014 had car towed there after hearing loud bang/pop while driving on freeway. They could not figure out car need new catalytic converter. They claimed they drove tested the car. I picked up car and drove 12 miles, car started making the pop noise. Turned around and after 8 miles car died. Had car towed again. Now they figured out needed new catalytic converter.
2017 had major service done and they advised cam plugs leaking oil. Why did they not call and recommend replacement since they were doing major service? The service reception person (Tim Green?) that was there for many years would have done just that.
2017, told them front passenger side window door does not work. They gave $518 estimate for replacing motor or regulator. They called and said need new wiring harness which requires removing entire dashboard, but can fix by reconnecting the wires together. Picked up car arrived home and window or door lock did not work. Returned next day and upon picking up I tested everything. Front passenger mirror not working. The mechanic that worked on car advised not to use the front door. WHAT!! Then how about refunding the $500 that I paid? They were unable to fix and did not reduce nor gave me a refund. Had relative who is a mechanic take a look. Said poor job was done by twisting the wires and using wire caps instead of soldering. He added wire by soldering both ends to existing wires. Took him about 2 hours. Every thing works!!!!
