He talks a great game to get you to sign the contract. He doesn't honor the contract. Even if it says something in black and white he says "the contract doesn't mean what it says it means. this item isn't included. here's a bill for the "extra". For example, heating ventilation, air conditioning labor and materials didn't include ventilation, heat registers, connecting the gas line, or connecting ventilation to the ducts. Sheetrock labor and materials didn't include sheetrock for the bathroom or the master closet both of which were part of the remodel on the plans. He kept the plans and the permit card in his truck. He told us he had passed inspections that he did not pass and accepted checks for passing inspection. He didn't build to the plans and refused to fix framing errors. After running 3 months behind schedule he says he doesn't know how to build the porch roof in the plans. He asked to do something different. After he was done he presented us with a bill for $15,000 without either any verbal conversation on charges nor a signed change order. He didn't pass the framing inspection and tried to charge us more money to pass inspection. We refuses and he walked off the job for about 3 months. He stopped paying workers comp in the middle of the project and continued to have workers on the roof, on scaffolding, etc thus exposing us to a lawsuit. We found out that he stopped paying workers comp and had his license suspended after the state posted it, but in the interim time when he knew he didn't have a license he bullied and threatened us to get us to pay bills for things that we had never approved. He had his office manager stalking us and coming into our bedroom and demanding money we didn't owe and refused to leave. He charged us for several items that he never completed like window installation and for things he never started like finish grading. After firing him we have found several things like plumbing and the sewer line that wasn't done to code and we have had to hire others professionals at additional cost to get these items up to code. Every time we confronted him with not following plans or passing code he would yell and swear at us -- even in public places and in front of his employees and sub contractors. Almost all of his subcontractors were unlicensed.
